ORCA IN THE GALAPAGOS


Aboard the MV Evolution there were some amazing scenes as some lucky passengers spotted an Orca tossing a sea turtle in the air. This video was taken by Phil Courter in the Bolivar Channel in the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Fernandina Island. You can see La Cumbre volcano in the background on Fernandina. Though transient Orca pods are not uncommon in the Galapagos, they are only seen very infrequently by visitors. Orcas are opportunistic predators and feed on species including sea lions, dolphins, fish and in this case, green sea turtles. Watch the video here
