Excursions
Explora Valle Sagrado offers guests over 20 exploration activities, either on foot or bicycle with the flexibility to choose your activities each night for the next day. Expert guides will ensure you experience the area’s unique geography and Andean culture in all it richness.
Hikes
Salineras (6kms - 2 hours, 45 minutes)
This is easy hike in which you will visit the colonial town of Maras, and then go down the trail passing through potato plantations and corn fields, into the salt mines.
La Veronica (6kms - 3 hours)
During the dry season, visits to snow caped Mount Veronica and the surrounding mountains are the main attraction; it also includes sighting of the Royal Cinclodes. During the rainy season, the cushions of moss, and the lichens and fungi that cover the hillside, glisten with moisture.
Cinco Lagunas (8.5kms - 4 hours, 30 minutes)
This tour entails a walk across the pampa and a tour of the 5 lakes, with panoramic views of the snow caped Mount Sawasiray.
Amaru (10.3kms - 5 hours)
Set in the Valle de la Papa, the trail begins at two lagoons located more than 4000 metres above sea level. It later descend down the slopes, while overlooking the valley surrounded by various farming communities, and ends at a colonial church built in adobe.
Saqsaywaman & Cusco (13kms - 5 hours, 30 minutes)
The trail crosses the mountains that separate the Sacred Valley and Cusco. It begins at 4300 meters above sea level, and ends at Sacsayhuaman and Cusco.
Incanan (18kms - 7 hours, 30 minutes)
The route crosses the mountain range of Urupampa from north to south, on a trail that runs alongside one of its highest peaks, the Sawasiray, that reaches 5818 meters.
Biking
Cuesta Del Sapo (20kms - 3 hours)
This trail offers views of the mountains and the Urubamba River, it descends through orchards, corn fields and Inca terraces, it is ideal for inexperienced travelers and families.
Rio Urubamba (33kms - 3 hours)
The road runs down into the valley on the south side of the Rio Urubamba, amongst cornfields, old farms, and XX and XIX century manor houses.
Kenko (56kms - 6 hours, 30 minutes)
The route descends through towns and fields overlooking the Sacred Valley and Pisac. It continues along the valley on the south side of the Rio Urubamba through cornfields and old haciendas, for 30km.
Huaypo & Ruins (37kms - 7 hours)
We will explore the Chincheros agricultural area visiting orchards, farms, ranches, and towns; passing through Moray, Maras and finishing at the Rio Urubamba.
Inka Tracks (6kms - 2 hours, 55 minutes / 17kms - 3 hours)
AM: The trail descends through potato plantations and pampas where shepherds tend their cattle, this will give your the possibility of interacting with the local community.
PM: Starting in Pampa, the road goes down through villages and fields with great views of the Sacred Valley and Pisac.
Overland
Huarocondo (Full Day)
From Casa Pumacahua we will go up to Chinchero. Then we will continue to Huaypo lagoon and its lookout point. After that we will come across the Huarocondo village while crossing through numerous crop fields where peasants work or take care of their livestock, ending at the Ollantaytambo fortress which we will visit.
Valle De La Papa (Full Day)
We will begin at Kenkom with views down into the valley and Cusco. Then we will continue to the Valle de la Papa, passing through Pisac and having a picnic on the pampa. We will then visit some of the best textile manufacturers; we will walk through the village and learn about natural dyeing techniques, and loom and waist weaving.
Cusco (Full Day)
We will show you the best of Cusco in one day. We will visit Saqsaywaman and Corincancha on which the convent of Santo Domingo and the San Blas neighborhood were built. We will then offer a visit to the Pre-Columbian Art Museum, San Pedro market, some art galleries, etc. On your own or with a guide.
Machu Picchu (Full Day)
This tour will allow you to visit the famous historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu and return to the hotel to rest. From the train station in Ollantaytambo you will travel to the town of Aguas Calientes, where you will board a bus to the entrance of the enclosure. The estimated time for the visit is three hours. Machu Picchu tour is not included in the lead in prices but can either be added into the package or as a pre or post extension including the option for an overnight stay.
